The summer is moving fast, and the school year is approaching. I'm reminded of a line from one of my favorite songs:

Sometimes the best map will not guide you You can't see what's round the bend Bruce Cockburn, Pacing the Cage

No map is able to tell us what tomorrow brings. I recall Jesus saying something along these lines.

“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." Matthew 6:34

We continue on, seeking first the kingdom of God, and trusting him for everyday's provision and guidance. There is plenty to be anxious about, but if God is for us and with us, who can be against us!

Thank you for your prayers and partnership! Our family is constantly encouraged by your being for us and with us. Every gift you give, every prayer you text, every encouraging note you send is a reminder to us that we are not alone and that God is doing something way beyond just one family on mission in Puerto Rico.

A MISSION VISIT FROM FRIENDS!

We had an amazing time with the mission team from Gospel Hope Church! If you don't know, Gospel Hope Church is where I served for a year and half doing a church planting residency. I still receive coaching from their elders and our family is deeply grateful for the way they have served us, loved us, and partnered with us in this church planting call! While they were here, they served with physical labor, ministry care, and mission aid!

Physical Labor

The physical labor involved beautifying a deck that is located at Adoptando en PR. We were also able to lead a soccer day for the kids at the children's home.

Ministry Care

The team cared for us in many ways. First, they brought me my commentaries and reference works! And to top it off they provided a large bag of coffee from one of my Atlanta favs, Radio City Coffee Roasters! One evening, they paid for Maria and I to go on a date while they hung out with our kids. The evening concluded with a much needed haircut. These seemingly small acts are deeply encouraging and helpful. Our kids had a great time playing bananagrams with the team. Caleb pretty much bloodied his hands playing Cajon for us all week :) Our family felt very loved by the team and by Gospel Hope for sending them to us!

THE SOCCER CAMP

The main event of the week was a 3 day soccer camp that served military families, as well as the local community. We had a great turnout for this first go at it. The team did a great job! I only had to to do some basic administration. They ran the whole thing and it allowed me time to connect with the parents. Next year is going to be even bigger!

I'll send another post with more updates on our needs for the future, but this post is simply a celebration of partnership in mission! Until next time. Peace!
